Context

The product landscape

ThinkExam is a multi-tenant EdTech ecosystem spanning test administration, candidate experiences, question banks, scheduling, online and offline delivery, AI proctoring, coding and psychometric assessments, evaluation, analytics, LMS capabilities, certifications, payments, APIs, and integrations.

Challenge

What had to change

Modernize a broad, business-critical assessment ecosystem while sustaining secure delivery, high availability, and predictable performance during large concurrent examination windows.

Approach

Architecture, delivery, and leadership

  1. 01

Set platform modernization priorities and architecture guardrails across Node.js, Laravel, Angular, React, Next.js, and GraphQL services.

  2. 02

Used horizontal scaling, caching, queues, load balancing, container orchestration, observability, and cloud-native infrastructure to strengthen critical delivery paths.

  3. 03

Established CI/CD, Secure SDLC, OWASP controls, VAPT remediation, engineering standards, and technical-review practices.

  4. 04

Led approximately 20 engineers across backend, frontend, QA, DevOps, product, and platform workstreams.

Outcomes

What the work enabled

  • Platform designed to support 50K+ concurrent users.
  • More than one million assessments delivered per month.
  • Clearer architecture governance, reliability ownership, and technical-roadmap execution.
Sanitized architecture

How the system responsibilities connect

01Candidate and admin experiences
02API and assessment services
03Queues, cache, and data stores
04Kubernetes, observability, and cloud infrastructure
Constraints

Boundaries that shaped the work

  • Live high-stakes examination windows
  • Multi-tenant security and isolation
  • Modernization without interrupting delivery
Trade-offs

Decisions made deliberately

  • Incremental modernization over a risky rewrite
  • Capacity and resilience before decorative complexity
  • Shared guardrails with team-level ownership
